POSTS WERE FREQUENTLY WIDER AT THE TOP, OR “GUNSTOCKED” (SEE TWO DRAWINGS, TOP NEXT PAGE). AESTHETICALLY INTERESTING, IT ALSO ADDED THE EXTRA WOOD NEEDED AT THIS JOINT. ILLUSTRATED ARE A SIMPLE CHAMFERED GUNSTOCK (TOP LEFT, NEXT PAGE) AND A MORE ELABORATELY CARVED ONE (TOP RIGHT, NEXT PAGE).
